News and views - July 2020

Normally at this time of year we're all rushing around with river trips, events and training. 2020 is just not a normal year!
So we've been busy behind the scenes working on many exciting next steps in the world of rafting.
The most obvious is our new look website. We've reduced the number of pages and made it a lot easier to find everything you need. Have a look and let us know what you think!

Read about our collaborative work with the Alliance of Independent recognised Members of Sport's (AIMS) where we discussed current and post pandemic challenges. And we give thanks to AIMS for their support and assistance in progressing us toward full membership of GAISF. We've included a brief article on how impactful AIMS are in the world of international sports.

Applications for the 2020 White Water of Siberia forum are now being accepted and are welcomed from across the globe. Watch the promo video to whet your appetite.

Missing being on the water? Enjoy the video of the Taureau Section of the Jacques-Cartier River which is one of Quebec’s toughest sections of whitewater, boasting 25km of continuous Class V.

We take a look at what the shock of cold water can do to you, and the risks it involves when you are already dealing with a swim in Class 4 or 5 water. Something all people paddling cold water rivers should consider in their risk management.

The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly. The idea is that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. So even if you missed doing it on the 30th, take the opportunity now to reach out to your friends - the world is needing it now more than ever!

Look after yourselves and each other. Remember, we are #StrongerTogether even if it means we have to be physically apart for the short term.

See you on a river soon.
