So many of us have been in severe lockdowns this past month, with high case numbers of the virus around us. But with vaccines rolling out at a steady pace, and waves and restrictions easing at last in many countries, there seems to be light at the end of this tunnel at last.

In this month's newsletter we share with you news about our first Sustainability in Rafting Webinar which received some high praise indeed; and invite you to register for our second one.

We update you on the changes with our World Rafting Championships over the next few years; and invite all our GTE Instructors to register for our online 2021 GTE Instructors Conference.

We bring you news of the Dracula Race in Romania, the first Euro Cup event of the season! Yes! There is racing happening!

And we encourage you to make plans to compete at one of the growing number of IRF Euro Cup and other events already on offer in Europe, like the ever popular Vrbas River, Devil's Stream and Trnavka events, plus Priboj and Ibar in Serbia!

Here's hoping that the growing events schedule will not see many postponements or cancellations.

Sustainability in Rafting webinar available to book now

Following great success with our Persian language Sustainability in Rafting webinar, we once again bring you the highly regarded webinar, this time in English.

Sustainability has a broad appeal not just to rafters. This was evidenced by the prestigious attendees at the Persian version of the Sustainability in Rafting Webinar. The first webinar was in Persian, and this second one will be in English, with the aim of delivering more in other languages soon.

Looking for a race to attend in Europe?

Many of you are desperate to get out and race again, to meet up with fellow rafters, and have some fun on and off the river and to enjoy some raft racing. Aren’t we all! Well, if you take a look at our racing calendar you will see there are quite a few for you to choose from!

One of the most popular events is the World Cup / Euro Cup event on the Vrbas River in Banja Luka.

Dracula Race bites into the Euro Cup season

The now annual pilgrimage of race teams to Transylvania has made its mark as the Dracula Race bites into the Euro Cup racing calendar. Race Director and regular face on judging and racing circuits at Euro and World level, Mihai Mares gives us some insight into the race that is now a regular on the EC calendar. Jasmina Marčok also gives us her first hand knowledge as the Head Judge.

It was such a joy and relief to see again boats darting down the current, to hear the skin prickling ”paddles up!” and to hear judges talking over the radio as teams pass by!

Registration open for GTE Conference 2021

The IRF GTE Conference 2021 will be an online event. Registration is now open.

The GTE Conference is an opportunity for all Instructors and Assessors to review and update their knowledge and skills of the IRF’s Guide Training & Education (GTE) System. The conference is open to all current and recently expired IRF GTE Instructors and Assessors. Attendance of the event will count toward renewal criteria for Instructors.

Update on the status of 2021 IRF World Rafting Championship

A message from IRF President, Joe Willis Jones:

Dear IRF Athletes, Officials, Coaches, Supporters and Rafting Enthusiasts,

As you are aware, in the last weeks many IRF member countries around the world have re-imposed travel restrictions and lockdown measures due to rapidly growing cases of Covid-19. Several effective vaccines have been developed to combat the SARS-CoV-2 virus and are beginning to have a positive effect. However, mutations of the virus have emerged that are continuing to pose challenges to getting the pandemic under control.

IRF host’s highly regarded Sustainability Webinar

On the 14 March 2021, the International Day of Action for Rivers, a very successful Sustainability Webinar was held by the International Rafting Federation (IRF).

This, the first of many webinars was run in Persian and saw 61 attendees from a broad spectrum from tourism managers, sport managers, paddling coaches, rafters, and rescue technicians from all around Iran. It was surprising to see so many participants in different fields from different parts of the country.
