The Devil’s Stream pulled in teams from across Europe to take on it’s challenging rapids this weekend. Hosted by Czech Union of Boaters (Rafting), this very popular annual event saw over 20 teams teams take to the Vlatva River, near Lipno in Czechia.
The Devil’s Stream section is immediately below the Lipno dam and provides for fast action and challenging rapids for all teams. This challenging section was host to the IRF World Rafting Championship in 2003 and European Rafting Championship in 2012 and is part of the IRF’s 2020 EC Series.
Saturday was R4 with 12 Open Men, 5 Open Women, 3 Masters Men, 3 Junior Men and 2 Youth Men teams competing. The competition was strong in the Open Men with less than one minute difference between 1st and 5th place (21:57.29 – 22:52.63). Photos.
Sunday was the turn of R6 teams to take on the Devil’s Stream. There were 5 Open Men, 1 Open Women, 1 Masters Men, 1 Junior Men and 2 Youth Men teams competing. Photos.
An excellent result for Youth team Team Youngster YES R6 with a time beating the second place Junior team by 42 seconds!
For many Czech teams this was the second chance to get out on the water in competition this year. Great effort from Team Germany (2019 R6 competitors) making their way over to compete this weekend.
We look forward to more racing in the coming weeks. Follow our race calendar for raft race events as they get added.
