We are happy to introduce to you Romania as the newest european country with an artificial whitewater channel! And just last week we held the Cornișa Cup 2021 on its waters.
After six years of planning and construction and careful safety assessments Cornișa AquaPark and Sports opened its pumps for tourists in July 2021.
Soon after, at the end of October in probably the last sunny and warm weekend of the year Cornișa administration together with Asociatia Profesionala de Rafting Romana blew the start whistle of the first ever rafting and kayaking competition on such premises – the Cornișa Cup 2021.
Five R4 teams stood up to the challenge and raced in all four disciplines. With four loops of paddle-and-run for the Downriver, 12 gates in Slalom, a Sprint and the usual battles of Head to Head. Ten kayakers put up some fighting in Slalom and Boater X disciplines, too.
Logistics were great and the race went smoothly, giving hope for the organisers that next year they will cope easy with higher numbers of racers when pandemic impacts will let us all travel easier.
For those of you interested, Cornișa has four pumps, 12 cms maximum flow, 287 m length over five vertical metres. The channel is part of a large recreational facility with outdoor & indoor swimming pools, tobogans, bars & grills, a cinema and tennis courts.
The city and the closest hotel are five minutes drive away. The City of Botosani has all kind of accomodation and you have two international airport close by – Iasi (direct flights to London, Dublin, Paris, Roma, Barcelona, Brussels, Köln) and Suceava (14 international destinations).
Hope to see you all next year when we wish to see Cornișa as part of the Euro Cup Series!
