The final day of the 2016 Euro Rafting Champs in Slovenia has drawn to a close with the Downriver as the defining discipline.
The Downriver was held on the Krka River from Zagradec to Šmihel and took the top teams just over 32 minutes to complete. As the Downriver has the most points it is vital to do well in it to secure top positions.
In the U19 Men’s category RUS1 defended their Downriver title as well as the Overall title and are once again the IRF’s R4 U19 Men’s European Rafting Champions!
In the Masters Men CZE1 also defended their Overall title in an extremely close competition with the infamous “Bober” team (SLO1) who matched overall points of 940 with CZE1, but as CZE1 won the Slalom, they are determined as the new R4 Master’s Men European Rafting Champions and are already the R6 Euro Champions!
RUS1 did a clean sweep of all the disciplines in the U19 women’s category, and so are crowned the new champions.
The home teams of SLO1 in the Open Men’s and U23 Men’s won their Downriver races and in doing so secured Gold overall as well. So Slovenia can proudly party with their two new Euro Champion teams tonight. The U23 team are also the R6 Euro Champions!
GBR1 claimed Gold in the Downriver in the Open Women’s category and so are now not only the R6 Euro Champions, but the R4 Champions as well!
U23 Women’s category was won by Russia and the Masters Women by Slovakia.

Italy has some great talent in the U19 division and I’m sure are delighted with the medals coming home. A special mention to the Danish Open Women who achieved an incredible second in Slalom – an amazing achievement for a team that only started in rafting in 2013! Great Britain was fielding two good teams in both Open categories as well – good to see the Red Rose‘s teams improvements as well! The Russian U19 team are an awesome team – R4, R6 Euro Champions as well as R6 World Champions!
