With the final event of the series recently being held in Slovenia on the Soca River near Solkan, the 2018 European Cup Series has drawn to a close.
There were 6 events in the R4 series with some locations opting for R4 so teams planning to attend the ERC or WRC this year had opportunities to race against each other. Some federations also use these events as their National Selections.
Raft Club Gimpex Straza 1 of Slovenia took the 2018 Euro Cup R4 Men’s Series title with a convincing win of 3 disciplines at the Solkan event, the H2H at EC Wildalpen and Slalom at EC Vrbas – so a well deserved win! RK Hodonin of Czech attended and performed well at EC Wildalpen, Vrbas, Lipno and Trnavka, which gave them plenty points to choose from to take 2nd place. Nektar Dajak Club’s great performances in the Downriver at EC Wildalpen and Vrbas (winning Gold in both) secured them 3rd place.
The Women’s 2018 Euro Cup R4 Series title goes to Czech’s LET-RAJ U23 team, their points mostly coming from dominating all 3 disciplines at EC Vrbas. Second place also goes to a Czech team – the Spitfires. Third place was Slovakia’s Sun Sport Raft Team who took Gold in the H2H at EC Wildalpen.
The R6 series saw only 3 events and less teams attending due to it being an “R4 year”, so teams and event organisers were focusing more on those events. But the Romanian “Dracula Race” has been a great addition to the series.
In the Men’s and Women’s we have brand new teams winning the series! Romania has entered the raft racing world with great enthusiasm and taking 1st (Vointa Arad) and 2nd (MOE) in the men’s and 1st (Outdoor Events Ladies) in the women’s series! TR Hiko placed 3rd in the men’s, while Adventure Net and NSA, both of Bulgaria, came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Women’s. Outdoor Event Ladies can be proud of their performance, beating other more seasoned teams.
This year saw less events in the series as some events withdrew at the last minute, however, next year is looking good as some new and exciting locations have been added!
