With recent unprecedented limits on movement and enforced isolation, now more than ever we need to recognise and value friendship across the globe. Today we mark United Nations International Day of Friendship by asking all rafters to reach out and contact friends whom you have not seen or spoken to since before the pandemic. We may not see these friends often but we hold them dear in our thoughts.
The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. The day is also based on the recognition of the relevance and importance of friendship as a noble and valuable sentiment in the lives of human beings around the world.
To mark the International Day of Friendship the UN encourages governments, international organizations and civil society groups to hold events, activities and initiatives that contribute to the efforts of the international community towards promoting a dialogue among civilizations, solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation
And so today, we ask all our #RiverFamily to share posts on social media of their rafting family from across the globe and tag #RiverFamily and/or #StrongerTogether. We will share all the best photos on IRF Stories on Facebook and Instagram.
