Words from your instructor, to the participants:
“These 5 days will include a thorough review of paddling, guiding and people managing skills of the candidates, preparation for the IRF exam and an IRF exam on the last day.
It will be a level 2/3 assessment, depending on the level of the participants.
As you will not be able to learn everything you need to know for the exam within this time, you need to be prepared before arriving at this course.
You need:
Basic boat handling skills
Different paddle strokes needed by the guide, efficient turning of the raft
Ferries
Catching eddies
Throw bag practice
Knots (figure of 8, butterfly, prusik, clove hitch, munter (Italian) hitch, overhand knot)
Flip
Physical fitness to be a river guide/flip a raft/climb into the raft
Especially flipping a raft and learning knots is very time consuming on a course. We are just trying to keep things efficient that we can learn and improve as much as possible in these 5 days.”
